the map is really badI bought this GPS a month ago. The screen is good, as well as personlized settings. However, the map, which is a key point for a GPS, is not good at all. I could not find my destinations no matter which way I searched them. This situation happened quite offen. I think that's why this 5 inch screen GPS is so cheap. Money never goes to the wrong way.

TomTom XXl 540MI have had the TomTom for about 6 weeks and have had no problems. I used the map update when I first received it and it worked just fine. I have not had any of the problems discussed by some other reviewers. The touch screen is quite sensitive and sometimes it thinks you have touched it twice. Do not touch the screen when affixing to windshield! Attach the holder and then press the unit into place, without touching the screen! I am using it in my Tacoma pickup. It did come loose from my windshield once when on a washboard road for about 2 miles. I bought the portable dash mount thingy and I would NOT do that again - too much vibration transferred to the unit making it hard to see. The windshield mount works just fine and has virtually no vibration transfer. I have found it to be quite accurate - better than MapQuest on a couple of occasions. I like the advance notification on turns, especially if you have two turns in quick succession. I gave it 4 stars because I have not had it long enough for long term evaluation. I would purchase again. Buy the house charger so you can program in your locations without sitting in the vehicle. The battery is only good for about 4 hours when fully charged - seems they never are when you need them, like a phone! I have not tried the update feature yet, so I cannot comment on that.
