Great Nikon flash, excellent price/performance ratioI won't retread older reviews with this. This flash does a damn good job, considering it's half the price of the 900. It won't give you all the reach or the coverage of the 900, but it does about 75-80% of what the 900 can do. What's more, it is about a third smaller, so if you're taking a fill flash outdoors it'll fit in a coat or cargo short pocket without falling out.
Light quantity is very good, and wireless response is excellent - from almost any angle, it'll respond to my D80's flash signals where the 900 sometimes won't. I use this both for work and for fun, and I'm not disappointed with it.
The only quibble I have is the lack of support for gels, but I know a lot of folks do DIY gels, so this is a minor issue. I would highly recommend this flash for any prosumer application.

580 canon flashanother great flash by canon, needed a master flash for my other canon speed lite collection and this was obviously the next step. if you need only flash and didn't want to spend the money spend the money this is only a couple of hudnred or so more than 400 series, you will end up getting this if you plan on doing any type of studio, photoshoot or project. company was fast and reliable and no issues on shipping.

Poor Nikon QualityI bought this flash to go along with my D40x. After struggling with poor quality photos, I took the D40 back to the shop where I bought it from, and they agreed that the camera needed servicing. So out the camera body went to Nikon for a few weeks. Nikon agreed the camera was defective, repaired it, and it came back working normally. The flash then worked fine for 3 months, but it too has stopped working. Now I have to go through the hassle of shipping my flash off to Nikon for repairs again. My camera is used primarily for taking family and baby photos, and I handle the camera very gently. I am very, very disappointed in Nikon quality. Either I am particularly unlucky, or Nikon makes cheap junk nowadays.

Don't need TTL, but Like the Trim DesignI realize that the point of these new pocket wizards is that they can use TTL information to control the settings of Canon flashes and thereby do more than the basic pocket wizards, which just trigger remote flashes and strobe lights. However, I don't want or need the TTL feature. I mostly use strobe flashes. I only occasionally use a Canon flash, remotely. When I do, I manually set it the Canon flashes and use my Pocket Wizard MultiMAX transceivers. So if the TTL features isn't working as well as some reviewers here say--even after the firmware upgrade--it doesn't really matter to me. For simple flash triggering, it works fine.
If you have the same needs as do I, consider my reasons for buying this pocket wizard: I bought one of them because I needed another pocket wizard flash trigger and decided that the design for the FlexTT5 has a more minimal profile. It looks slicker and it's not as nerdy as the other models. With the MultiMax, it looks like I have a small walkie-talkie attached to the top of my camera. I don't mind my MultiMax transceivers attached to my strobe lights, but I wanted something more trim for my camera. As for cost, the FlexTT5 is about eighty dollars cheaper that the MultiMax and has all of its features. It's also only fifty dollars more than the PocketWizard PLUS II, which is limited in features.
