Now I can share my snorkel videos with friends.Got a Flip video camera last Christmas. Bought the Flip video underwater case
to take to the Caribbean so I could film our time snorkeling. I was not disappointed at all.
The camera stayed dry the entire time we were snorkeling. The plastic case did not distort
or discolor any of the images filmed, and the control buttons were easy to see and operate under the water.
Because the case keeps the water out, it also blocks sound. That is fine, because I add the music track when
editing the video. At this price, and the way it performed like I expected, I would definitely recommend it. Read more...

| Features• Powershot camera looks set to become the new standard for underwater photographers wanting a top notch camera in a point-and-shoot underwater housing
Great Fun for Snorkeling (BIG Caveat: Have not tried at depth yet)I had a great time using this underwater housing on a recent trip to Hawaii. I used it while snorkeling, so I have not yet tried it for scuba--so I cannot confirm or dispel the concerns about leaking that others have experienced, so that's why I am not giving it 5 stars at the moment. By the way, based on other people's reviews, I did stuff it with tissues and take it to the bottom of the pool to test for leaks before I put my camera in. Since the tissues came out dry, I figured I was okay.
I'm sure some will think I have no business doing a review without trying the housing at depth, but if there are any people who want to know how it performed for SNORKELING, here's what I really like about it--
Its size is not too big, but big enough that you can't forget you're holding onto a camera (I purchased a separate "floaty" wrist strap, but it seems that the housing will float anyway).
The buttons and dials are very easy to use, even with diving gloves on. They're nice and big. On the G11 (and maybe this is true on all cameras), the buttons for the "Scene" mode and for the "Video" mode are right next to each other. I set the "Scene" for underwater and so I was able to switch back and forth for still photos and video without a lot of scrolling.
The locking mechanism seems secure. In my experience, it would be very difficult to open the case accidentally.
Most of all--my pictures came out great. I did not notice any distortion from the housing and I didn't experience any fogging while shooting.
Basically, I had a really good time using it and I definitely would recommend it for snorkeling. After I've had a chance to use it on a dive, I'll update if necessary. Read more...

| Features• The Waterproof Case for the Powershot S-90. lets you take your camera safely out to sea in a boat, on a surfboard, in a kayak • Available in packs of four, these weights allow the camera to stay put for steady underwater photography
Excellent underwater caseThe case is great. It fits the S90 perfectly, and lets you operate all the controls with relative ease. You can turn the front control wheel, and you can *press* the rear control wheel in 5 different areas but not turn it. However, this is not a big disadvantage because you can still access all the features of the camera using various button presses, even if you can't turn that rear wheel. It's just a little slower.
Canon builds these cases for almost all their compact cameras, and they've got it down. You don't want to go around dropping the case on random rocks, but it's built pretty solidly, with thick plastic. It's not leaked on me, nor did I ever have any problems with the very similar case for my Canon S30 that I've used over the past 7 or 8 years.
The flash is pretty lousy -- it's blocked by the case, though the included diffuser helps this a bit. But if you do much underwater photography you're not going to want to use the onboard flash anyhow, and this problem is shared with every single other point-and-shoot case out there.
I wish it was wider angle -- the S90 goes pretty wide, but you lose a lot of this once you put it underwater. Some SLR housings have 'dome' windows rather than the flat piece of glass that this one has, and that allows you to get the full wide angle of the lens. Too bad Canon doesn't offer that option here. But considering the price and the rest of the functionality, it's still a bargain.
Note that Ikelite makes a 3rd-party case for the S90 which is pretty similar, but a little more flexible than Canon's: for instance, you can screw on a wide-angle adapter lens in front of their case. That setup would clearly be better... but by that point it's become triple the price of the Canon casing. If you're going to spend that kind of money, you may as well keep spending and buy a full underwater SLR setup.
Update: I have recently had a problem with the window fogging up *between the two front pieces of glass* -- that is, moisture which is internal in the case and can't be wiped away even from the inside. I assume this is an isolated problem with my unit, but I will edit this review if the problem returns. Read more...

| Features• For small underwater subjects, choose the Macro Mode. Move to within minimum focusing distance of your subject and depress the shutter button halfway. Then using the LCD monitor, move the camera to sharpen your image. Finally, press the shutter button all the way to take the picture. Utilize the flash diffusion plate on the case to ensure even underwater flash lighting • The first thing to master with wide-angle shots is keeping the water color blue. To keep water looking blue, first set the White Balance* - choose Daylight in shallow water and Cloudy for greater depths. Then, get below your subject. Aim upward towards the sky to create dramatic silhouettes • Panorama - First, select the Stitch Assist Mode on your PowerShot digital camera. Shoot a series of overlapping images. Then use the PhotoStitch Software, supplied with your camera, to automatically combine images into a breath-taking panorama on your computer • You can also use your Canon Waterproof Case on land in environments where snow, sand, excess humidity or dust could lead to damage. Ideal for skiing and many other activities, a Canon Waterproof or All-weather Case provide an added measure of safety for your PowerShot camera on land • Follow instructions for maintenance tips to optimize housing performance, for example - The O-ring is the water-tight barrier that seals the PowerShot Waterproof Case and prevents water from reaching your camera. It is critical that you properly prepare the O-ring before closing the Waterproof Case and taking your camera into the water
Outstanding valueFor the money, this camera and housing are an outstanding combination for value underwater work.
The pictures that I've uploaded show some basic snaps using the flash and underwater mode (both will help with color loss). A proper SLR with a housing and external strobe will get far better, professional-looking results; but can be ten times the cost of this point-and-shoot combo.
I've found that the flash (with diffuser) should be used for shooting below 10 feet (3 meters) for best results. Independent of the water clarity, reds quickly disappear and cannot be replaced without using an external light source (such as a strobe, or the internal flash in this case). The built-in flash and diffuser allow for about 10 feet of usable range in the cone.
The camera does perform poorly at ISO equivalencies at or above 400 (images are very grainy). External reviews at other sites will offer objective reviews and shots showing performance at higher ISO settings. Using the underwater program means allowing the camera to automatically set the ISO speed. The internal flash can also help keep the ISO at 200 or below.
I have used a silica gel packet to avoid fogging, and have not used the camera for underwater work without a desiccant. I can't comment on how this deals with fogging sans desiccant.
The camera is positively buoyant, and there is a weight kit that can change the buoyancy, but I haven't tried it - so I can't speak for how it works. The next time I dive with this, I'll probably try to alter the buoyancy with whatever loose change I can wedge into the housing.
I would certainly buy this camera and housing again for underwater work. Read more...

What a deal!Just back from a Caribbean cruise where I got to try this camera out for the first time underwater. It had shipped very promptly after ordering and came with everything I'd expected and more - cable for PC, wrist strap, silicone grease, underwater filter, etc. I spent about $6 on a 2G memory card to use with it.
I justified the $71 combined price as the cost of around three or four disposable waterproof cameras plus film processing and a willingness to pay even a bit more for digital functionality rather than film.
Overall... I was way more than pleased! The camera performed well beyond my expectations. We used it kayaking, snorkeling, and on the beach and I dove with it to around 80 feet. I was quite pleased with the resulting picture quality, there was no water leakage, and the camera was simple to operate and unload. I went through two sets of AA batteries - quite acceptable consumption.
On the down side, the menu system is archaic - kind of like using DOS on a Windows computer. But... It worked! My biggest annoyance is the abysmally slow shutter response. Once you push the button, you must wait what seems like forever but is probably around a full second for the picture to be taken. If you're trying to shoot a fish, it may well have left by the time you get your shot. But, you can adjust, plan ahead, and still get some great shots.
Nobody on my dive boat could believe the price I paid for this camera. One person had an allegedly reusable film camera that I'd looked at and she'd paid $25 for. It leaked and failed. I was so glad I'd decided to buy this camera!
