| review invisible purchaseI have been offered a chance to review my Kindle. Since I don't have my Kindle and have no indication when I will have it, this will be somewhat difficult. I suppose I could review it based on the slick TV ads offering this apparantly unavailable item, but since those ads are akin to someone eating an ice cream cone in front of me while there is no ice cream available, I don't think I could be fair. Perhaps I should review it based on Amazon's website, offering Kindle for mid-September delivery. Again staying fair and balanced while an ad offers a delivery timeframe and my weeks old order doesn't even have the courtesy to do the same would be asking a bit much. I will say this, the order process was quick and easy. Filling the order needs a lot of work. Hint to Amazon, DON'T ADVERTISE ITEMS YOU DON'T HAVE AVAILABLE FOR SALE!!!!

I am upgrading my version 1 Kindle and I found the new one lighter, prettier and easier to use. On the other hand, it requires a wifi connection to download a book from Amazon.
Comparing to the first generation Kindle:
Better:
- Lighter
- Better graphics
- Native PDF support
- Better navigation (no more accidental page turns)
- Charge using USB (one less charger to carry)
- Easier to put to sleep (only one finger required)
- Easier to turn on/off the wireless (save battery)
- Battery lasts longer (didn't test it yet)
- Organize books into collections
- Hooks to attach to the cover (no more falling Kindles)
Worse:
- No "anywhere" Whispernet (wifi required)
- No support for external memory
- Uses micro-USB for connection (your old cables will not work, BUT they provide a cable)
- No replaceable battery (BUT I never replaced mine after 2 years)
- No cover provided (an additional $30+ expense)
Expanding some of these points:
-- Wifi vs "wireless"
Requiring a wifi connection was a big let down for me, since it was not clear from the specs that it wouldn't have the same access as my old one. If you look carefully at the description, you will see under "Books in 60 Seconds with Built-In Wi-Fi" that "Your books and periodicals are delivered over Wi-Fi via Whispernet" and there is no mention of other type of delivery
Since I used to associate Whispernet with the wireless (cell, not wifi!), it was kind of misguiding... I'll probably keep my new kindle, because I am usually pretty close to a wifi point most of the time. If you don't, spend the extra $50 for the 3G version.
-- PDF support
I thought that PDF support would be the best thing ever, but this format was designed for a 8x10 inches page and most of the books I tried are difficult to read, especially if they have very detailed graphics. If reading PDF documents (think manuals and legal books) is your main reason for a Kindle, seriously consider the DX. It is much more expensive, but your eyes will thank you. Or, alternatively, try to convert to native format. In this case, be aware that tables are not properly converted, most of the time.
-- Size, weight and buttons
The first Kindle was not heavy at all, but the new one feels as light as a 5 pages catalog. You can read it all day long without even noticing you are holding something. The reorganization of keyboard and navigation made for a smaller device, without sacrificing the screen, but nothing here really important.
A major complaint of everyone who uses the first generation Kindle was the size and position of the navigation keys. It was extremely hard to read on the bed without accidentally turning pages. This problem is now solved, with keys for "next page" and "previous pages" that are smaller but still easy to find by touch on both sides of the screen.
-- Cover
I still don't have mine, so I have to base this on the images in Amazon. Another major complaint was that, if you were not very careful, you could end up holding the cover while the Kindle would fall down on you, or, even worse, on the floor. Now, instead of a loose attachment, the Kindle has two slots that will fit hooks attached to the cover. Apparently, once hooked to the cover, you have to intentionally free it.

Amazon can do betterThis product is customized for the Kindle 3 and is of quality construction. The problems I encountered are with the light. First, it is difficult to pull the light strip out of the case. This is a two-handed procedure, requiring putting the Kindle down, and the force required will break many a finger nail. More importantly, the light is quite uneven as has been pointed out by many reviewers, with relatively little illumination of the bottom half of the screen. Anyone over the age of 40, when light adapti0n is slowed, will have trouble with this lighting and it will be fatiguing. Fatal flaw from my perspective.

The only change I would have made would have been if I could get a shorter cable. This is all that was available when I made my purchase. I think the splitter should have included this cable already attached.

Good cable, good price.Does what all the other more expensive HDMI cables do, tranmists audio and video, only at a fraction of the price. There's is no need to go to a brick & mortar store and get fleeced at $40,$60,$100+ for an HDMI cable when these cables get the job done for just $7. This is my second cable that I've ordered and have been pleased with both. Cable worked great out of the box for all my components; satellite receiver, Xbox 360, PS3(Blu-Ray). Overpriced Piece of JunkApple-bashers, the heading refers to non-Apple product you are going to buy from some Chinese/Korean company's product.
I owned a first generation iPod Touch then gave it to my brother a year ago and am ready for the fourth generation one. I don't believe in buying junk and am very value-oriented. For example, I subscribe to Virgin mobile's phone service which is cheap and I am not easily swayed away by glamor or brand names. I own a Kindle 3 which I think is the best eReader and don't plan to buy an iPad until the price comes down to something more reasonable.
Still I am one of the persons who ordered iPod Touch 32GB within minutes it became available on Amazon for sale. I think iPod Touch is not cheap but is a great value for those who plan to use it well. For people who just want an MP3 player or eReader or a cheap camera, there are much better value alternatives.
Regarding the camera which many bashers have focused on probably on clue from their masters/employers - the competitors of Apple, I think given Steve Jobs and his team's focus on perfection there is a reason why is not 5MP or more rated. Just like why the memory is JUST 8GB/32GB/128GB instead of say 100TB that might be needed for some isolated individuals for storing all their videos, data, music and so on.
One can buy a phone for below $10 which will have a camera with 1.3MP rating. Apple is not providing with a higher rated camera for a reason (Still their pixel rating is not known). Probably because they don't think for videos you don't need that and higher rated camera will be just a waste of resources. Just like they are not offering a 128GB model because they think most won't need that. Apple team is perfectionist and it is hard to believe that they will offer a low-rated camera without a reason. My suspicious is that many bashers could not attack any other feature of iPod Touch and decided to focus on a camera (getting paid a cent a word for their reviews) which is good enough for its intended use and was not designed to replace one's P&S or DSLR and is just a peripheral piece of this beautiful device.
If the US economy improves a bit by Christmas time this iPod Touch could have shortages and many of you could be cursing yourself for having missed the chance misled by paid bashers. And if you happen to live in San Francisco or East Bay and see a male with the biggest grin glued to his device's screen you will know that you have seen an iPod Touch owner- likely me. Good luck.
