Volume - Major Issue

I returned this after one night of use. The video screen will only go on when it detects some type of audio. The factory settings for the type of audio it has to detect for it to turn on the video can not be adjusted. It says its preset to pick up casual conversation but it wasnt sensitive enough to here our kid when he sat up and was talking... We tested it out ourselve and discovered it just wastn sensitive enough. I called and there is no way to change the preset or to just have audio on all the time. Returned it, trying the Summer Slim that looks like a cell phone, that one can have the audio on all the time if you would like.

Working with MAC and with Airport Extreme

So just got the camera. I used a PC laptop to actually run the setup. Both connected to airport extreme with ethernet cables to get everything set up properly. Even on your local network you can view the camera using Safari on the MAC by typing the IP address you assigned it in the browser.

1. Establish a static IP address for camera aside from default.
2. Change Port from default of 80 to (XXXX)
3. Got on MAC opened Airport Utilities to manually make settings for porting so I can view over the internet.
4. Manual Setup
5. Internet tab
6. NAT
7. Enable NAT Port Mapping
8. Configure, add a new, PUBLIC TCP: XXXX (same as what you set up on camera)
9. Private IP Address: (static IP address you gave camera)
10 Private TCP Port XXXX same as above
11. Continue, give a description - camera, done, update airport.

When you go to access over the internet you have to enter your public IP address assigned by router. You can easily test this by googling open port testing. This will tell you your IP address and if your port XXXX is open. If open go to browser and type [...] I had a friend test it from their house and it asked for user name and password. once I gave it to them they were able to see what my camera was looking at.

I haven't actually set up the wireless part yet but I was so excited to finally get this thing to work over the internet outside my local network I had to share it. I'm sure setting up the wireless using the WPA key will be simple enough. I got this camera for a simple home security camera to see what was going on at my house while I was at work and this is going to work great!

Defender SN-500-4CH-002 Security System Review

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R39DOMPNW07CGJ This is a video review of SN500-4CH-002 which is Defender's feature-rich 4 Channel H.264 DVR Security System with Smart Phone Access and 4 Indoor/Outdoor Hi-Res CCD Night Vision Surveillance Cameras.

This all-in-one system contains everything you need to setup and record a 4 camera surveillance system in your home or business.

broke after 3 weeks

I will try to be fair and hit the highs and the lows of this product. Firstly, I already had a (4) camera system from Dedicated Micros (high end system) which has worked perfectly for (5) years, but I was looking for something cheap to fill in the gaps in my camera system. I did my research but went more on price than features, which in hindsight was probably a mistake. The system arrived and I had it up and running pretty quickly, the instructions were very good and installation is easy.
Highs
1. Easy installation, easy instructions.
2. Pretty good video but needs some light to see in the dark, overall pleased with it.
3. DVR runs very quiet
4. Price..I actually paid $[...] and Amazon dropped it $[...] bucks..oh well.

After 3 weeks, the DVR would not record. I then found out the hard disk got corrupted. I had a power strip and was not turning it on and off, hence this was a surprise. I reformatted the drive, tried every trick in the book and it simply gave out. As several other reviewers have noted, this apparently is an issue and is not as rare as I thought. Customer service via their email was quick and authorized a return. I had to pay shipping ($43 bucks Fedex) and now I am waiting for it to come back. I will try to update this review when/if I get the unit returned.
Lows
1. no external disk for storing videos, must have it connected to network.
2. another reviewer noted the slow FF. I must agree, takes quite a bit of time to fast forward through saved videos. I'm guessing takes 15-20 minutes to look at 5 hours of video.
3. Cheaply made DVR unit. Obviously something that breaks after 3 weeks is cheap and the quality is subpar. My other system has run 24/7 for 5 years with no problems.

If the the Hard Disk did not get corrupted, I would have given it 4/5 stars.

More troubles

I bought the Lorex LW2002W after doing a lot of research. Read many reviews.
I thought I could tolerate all the minuses the other reviewers listed... I couldn't!
All those design flows turned out to be major inconveniences/annoyances, making this otherwise technologically sound product unusable. I used it for a month, couldn't stand it anymore. Had to return.

Pros: Digital "spread" signal : no interference with wireless internet, no security problems.

CONS:
-Signal is not strong enough for a basic 3 bedroom apartment on one floor in wooden house. The signal indicator is a gimmick: goes from full strength to low or no signal in a moment.
-On-Off button: Horrible placement - no matter how careful I handled the receiver it shuts off. And when you turn it back on again it emits loud beeps (even if you previously mute the volume) The result is at night you end up waking up everybody. ( Also imagine: you hear the baby's noise, grab the receiver to see what's going on, and this thing just shuts off!)
-Receiver's connection to the charging cradle is designed very poorly. You have to put down the receiver very carefully - otherwise it is not charging. And after a couple of weeks the wire contacts in the base got bent, so there was no charging at all. Those hair-wire contacts are very fragile.
- The camera stand design is very bad. No matter how you twist it it is next to impossible to aim the camera at the proper angle. Also attaching the camera is a major hassle: The base is too thick to use any clips. Screwing it to the wall does not give good aiming in my case. Tried to attach it to a small piece of plywood... C'mon, this is nonsense for $150 hi tech product.
-Both chargers have very short cords. This is a major problem for camera: Extension cord is too heavy and pulls the camera off-angle.
-Battery saving mode is very poorly designed and cannot be override: The unit turns on when detecting movement, but then turns off again no matter if there is more "action".
-when using the camera with AA batteries: the battery life is very poor and there is no warning of "low battery power". Also cannot be used in low light while battery powered.
-Some smaller issues:
-The light-on button is poorly placed-will accidently switch on-off all the time.
-The receiver's center of gravity is too high, so one has to be very careful when standing the unit down - it flips very easily.
-The color is a joke- the picture is mostly the same as black-and-white.

So the bottom line : the Cons make this unit a pain-in-the-neck. I returned it and am getting ZOpid instead.-They seemed to just put in a new firmware, which takes care of most negative reviews issues. Hope it will be better.

Good bang for the buck!

Pretty dang good quality for $85.00. You can afford to buy multiple cameras later down the road at this price. Unfortunately, the DVR software that comes with the camera will not export a compressed MPEG video unless you purchase it for $350.00. All recordings will remain locally on your hard drive.

Works Well

This Cisco Webcam works well for me. Once set up it works very reliably. I use it to monitor my driveway and cul de sac and it works well whether I am in my house or traveling across the country. Support for Video, Pictures and RTSP streaming makes it useful from almost any device.

Like many cameras, the motion detection capability is touchy. I can't quite get it set up to catch the motion I want.

Most of the time I access this device with Ubuntu Linux and this cam works fine with Linux, Windows or Apple OSX.

NO Shielding and very noisy cable !

I installed the original Q-see 100ft(Q-See QS100B) and 50ft cable on my 4 cameras and all suffer huge noise especially on the 100ft one. There is no shielding at all for Q-See cable, so the video quality suffer.
Then I found the Swann 100ft (SW271-S30 )from Frys store and the result is amazing ! All the noise is gone for all my 4 cameras. There is no more annoying scanning lines at all. The shielding on Swann cable is doing a great job. Trust me. Save you some time. Don't buy the Q-See cable. Five more dollars will give you much better video quality. Now I have to remove all the Q-See cables from my wall and replace all them with Swann cable. Again, shielding really makes different !

Doesn't work over my WiFi and is NOT zoom

I read all the reviews before buying this Pan Tilt Zoom (BTW it is NOT a zoom camera) network camera. My initial requirements were that it work over wifi, viewable on iPhone with PTZ, and have night vision. I am using it as a infant/toddler room monitor. Well, this product works very poorly on my network over wifi. I have all apple equipment and I was so displeased with the wifi performance that I ran cat5 to the room and have it on the wired network. Now it runs flawlessly. I would have saved $50 and bought the wired version. Aside from that the best I can get on my iPhone is about 3 frames per second. It makes it functional but far from fluid. The night vision works GREAT! It is in a 10x15 room and I can easily see my child even in complete darkness. I have the manual focus set on the bed because that is the area of most concern. The audio function is terrible and I never use it. I paid top dollar and thought I was getting one of the best home use IP cameras. I am a little disappointed it doesn't zoom and am VERY disappointed it does NOT work over wifi. I am not disappointed enough to return it. Three out of five stars. It is "OK".
